Enjoy a day with us at the BMA! I will be giving a small lecture/presentation about my techniques and experience with silk dying. We will also have garments from the recent Maryland Academy of Couture Arts fashion show on display.
Exhibitors will be set up so demonstrate and discuss various types of textiles and how they are made. There will be a fashion show at 4pm followed by our presentation.

Through the Looking Glass- Maryland Academy of Couture Arts
On Sunday May 1st The Maryland Academy of Couture Arts in partnership with Baltimore Fashion Alliance will host “Through the Looking Glass” a look at couture fashion design from a whimsical perspective, held at City Neighbors High School in the quaint Baltimore City neighborhood of Hamilton.
Along with 30+ Couture models, local Baltimore “celebrities” will showcase the work of several fashion designers who’ve come together to assist in the efforts of Maryland Academy of Couture Arts. The Fashion Show Fund Raising Event benefits City Neighbor’s High School students with ambitions of being couture fashion designers, while also supporting the mission of the House of Ruth, MD.
This year’s featured designers include, Michelle Murphy a silk painting artist who crafts fabulous hand-painted silk into dresses, capes, scarves, garments and wall art pieces.
Along with 30+ Couture models, local Baltimore “celebrities” will showcase the work of several fashion designers who’ve come together to assist in the efforts of Maryland Academy of Couture Arts. This fabulous event will benefit both Believe in Tomorrow Children’s Foundation and Ruth’s Closet. Guests will walk the “Pink“ carpet, preview Fall fashions courtesy of FRESH! Boutique draped in bling from Radcliffe Jewelers and enjoy bites by Chef’s Expressions.
The show will be emceed by Sloane Brown, Special Writer for The Baltimore Sun, and will include VIP guests such as Jeanine Turner, Brooke Poklemba (Miss Maryland 2009), and the reality cast members of “Goodfellas of Baltimore.” Maryland Academy of Couture Arts students will be featuring their “project runway challenge” bling-inspired pieces on mannequins throughout the space, with the winning piece to be worn by Miss Maryland.
